Kæri ritstjóri Sólskins.
Mig hefir lengi langað til að senda Sólskini fáeinar línur. Eg er sjö ára, afmælið er 20. september, þá verð eg átta ára. Eg á eina systur, hún er sex ára, hún heitir Sigríður og bróðir minn heitir Guðmundur og er fjögra ára. Við systurnar göngum á enskan skóla og líkar vel, svo getum við lesið íslenzku; þess vegna hefi eg svo gaman af Sólskininu, þegar það kemur. Við lifum hér hjá afa okkar og ömmu, svo eigum við afa og ömmu í Geysi-bygð í Nýja-Íslandi. Móðursystir mín, Sigrún að nafni, vinnur við símastöð í Árborg. Eg skrífa stundum frænkum mínum bréf, og eins ömmu minni, sem lifir á Hálandi í Geysi bygð, hún er nafna mín. Eg á þar hjá ömmu fallega svarta kú, sem heitir “Dimma” og kind og tvö lömb, svo eg er nokkuð rík. Eg býst við að mamma mín og eg förum til Gimli í sumar, við bjuggum þar áður í fimm ár. Það er fallegt þar við vatnið.
Þú fyrirgefur nú hvað þetta er ófullkomið.

Dear editor of Sólskin.
I have long wanted to send a few lines to Sólskin. I am seven years old, my birthday is September 20th, then I will be eight years old. I have one sister, she is six years old, she is named Sigríður, and my brother is named Guðmundur and is four years old. We sisters go to an English school and like it a lot, we are also able to read Icelandic; that’s why we enjoy Sólskin so much when it arrives. We live here with our grandfather and grandmother, we also have our grandfather and grandmother at the Geysir settlement in New Iceland. My maternal aunt, Sigrún by name, works at the telephone office in Árborg. I sometimes write letters to my cousins, and also to my grandmother, who lives in Háland in the Geysir settlement, she is my namesake. I have a beautiful black cow there with my grandmother, who is called “Dimma” and a sheep and two lambs, so I am quite rich. I expect that my mother and I will go to Gimli this summer, we lived there before for five years. It’s beautiful there by the lake.
