Kæri ritstjóri Lögbergs.
Hjartans þakklæti fyrir Sólskinið í Lögbergi. Eg les það sama dag og blaðið kemur. Öllum í húsinu þykir vænt um það, og í næsta húsi lesa börnin það líka og allir dást að því. Eg ætla að láta binda það í bók, þegar nóg er komið til þess. Ó, það verður gaman að lesa svo bókina. Eg hlakka til þess. Guð gefi að þú getir haldið áfram þessu góða og þarflega verki sem lengst.
Beztu óskir til þín og þinna.

Dear editor of Lögberg,
Deepest gratitude for Sólskin in Lögberg. I read it the same day that the paper arrives. Everyone in the house loves it, and the children next door read it as well and they all adore it. I would like to have it bound in a book when there is enough to do it. Oh, it will be fun to read the book then. I look forward to it. God willing that you are able to continue this good and useful work as long as possible.
