Heiðraði ritstjóri Sólskins.

Þareð eg sá að það er leyfilegt, að fullorðnir megi skrifa í Sólskin, þá ætla eg að senda blaðinu nokkrar linur, í því trausti að þú, ritstjóri góður, takir þær í blaðið.

Það var um áramótin 1914 og 1915, að eg varð að segja upp Lögbergi sökum sjóndepru, og þótti mér það mjög slæmt, því mér þykir vænt um Lögberg, og íslenzku blöðin bæði úr Winnipeg, Lögberg og Heimskringlu. Svo leið alt sumarið að aldrei eða sjaldan sá eg Lögb. Þar til eg rak mig á annað blaðið sem Sólskin var i. Eg las það litla blað með athygli og þótti ágætt, sérstaklega fyrir það að það var barnablað. Þetta hafði þau áhrif á mig að eg sendi eftir Lögbergi til endurkaups og fékk það undir eins. Eg er nú farinn að láta dreng minn, sem er 12 ára, lesa það í hvert sinn sem það kemur, og biður hann mig um að fá að klippa úr og lesa Sólskin sjálfur. Sögurnar í Sólskin eru þess efnis, að hvert einasta íslenzkt barn ætti að hafa tök á því að kaupa Lögberg og fá lesa Sólskin. Það var sannarlega vel gert af þér ritstjóri “Sólskins” að koma því blaði á gang. Haf hjartans þökk fyrir hugmyndina og framtakssemina. Megi þér, herra ritstjóri, lengi endast líf og aldur til að rita og stjórna þessu blaði og framkvæma fleira í slíka átt.

Með ósk um farsælt og friðsælt komandi ár til allra lesenda Lögbergs og Sólskinsbarnanna.

Honourable editor of Sólskin.

Since I saw that adults are allowed to write to Sólskin, I would like to send the paper a few lines, in the trust that you, good editor, will put them into the paper.

It was around the turn of the year 1914 to 1915 that I had to give up my subscription to Lögberg due to poor eyesight, and I felt very bad because I love Lögberg, and both of the Icelandic papers out of Winnipeg, Lögberg and Heimskringla. So, it happened all summer that I never or seldom saw Lögberg. Until I noticed the second issue with Sólskin in it. I read that little paper carefully and found it quite good, especially since it was a children’s paper. This had such an effect on me that I sent again for a Lögberg subscription and got it right away. I have now started to have my son, who is twelve years old, read it each time it arrives, and he asks to clip out and read Sólskin himself. The stories in Sólskin are of such stuff that every Icelandic child should have the opportunity to buy Lögberg and to read Sólskin. It was truly well done by you, the editor of Sólskin, to get the paper up and running. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the idea and the initiative. May you, mister editor, live a long life to write and manage this paper and carry out more things in this direction.
