Kæri ritstjóri Sólskins:–
Þetta er fyrsta bréfið mitt sem eg sendi Sólskini. Eg hefi lesið það æfinlega og dáist mikið að.
Það var ein sagan sem mér þótti ljómandi falleg, hún heitir: “Tvö andlit á einni manneskju”. Það er sannarlega satt að ein manneskja getur haft tvö andlit. Það var sagt í endirnum að börnin ættu að mála tvær myndir af sömu manneskjunni og senda Sólskini. Af því að eg hefi ekki séð neinn reyna það, þá datt mér í hug að eg skyldi reyna það, og sendi eg nú Sólskini tvær myndir af sömu stúlkunni.
Þau hafa líklega hikað sér við það blessuð börnin að mála ljótu stelpuna, en kannske það yrði til þess að litlu börnin yrðu ekki óþekk við hana mömmu sína, eins og þessi ljóta, rifna, skælda telpa, og þá væri tilganginum náð.
Við börnin og uppvaxandi folk eigum að vera góð, því að það er líkast til aðal orsökin sem nú veldur öllum þeim hörmungum sem nú standa yfir í heiminum, að fólkið var ekki nógu gott. Það fyrsta sem maður á að gera er að vera hlýðinn og gegna bæði foreldrum og kennurum, því alt eru það kennarar og yfirboðarar.

Dear editor of Sólskin:–
This is the first letter that I am sending to Sólskin. I have always read it and much admire it.
There was one story that I thought was very beautiful, it’s called: “Tvö andlit á einni manneskju.” It really is true that one person can have two faces. It was said, in the end, that children should paint two pictures of the same person and send them to Sólskin. Since I haven’t seen anyone try it, it occurred to me that I should try it, and so I am sending Sólskin two pictures of the same girl.
They have probably hesitated to do it, the blessed children, to paint the ugly girl, but maybe it was so that the little children wouldn’t become disobedient with their mom, like that ugly, damaged, whining girl, and then the purpose would be achieved.
We children and grownups should be good because the main thing causing all the tragedies happening around the world now is probably that people weren’t good enough. The first thing that one must do is be obedient and obey both parents and teachers because they are all our teachers and superiors.
So, I send you in parting the last verse of Hallgrímur Pétursson’s “Heilræði.”
