40 Team Development

Bruce Tuckman originally described four main stages of team development in 1965: Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing. Later, a fifth stage of Adjourning/Transforming was added.

The speed with which a team moves through each stage will depend on the team members, their individual skills, the work they are expected to do, and the type of leadership available to the team (Kumar et al., 2014).
