Academic integrity at BU

Here at Brandon University, we have a set of shared values rooted in Indigenous knowledge and ways of doing which we uphold. These Seven Teachings – Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Humility, Wisdom, and Truth – influence our daily actions, from how we teach to how we learn. In this module, we’ll explore the Seven Teachings and how they relate to academic integrity – and how we can learn to embody each as we grow as learners.

Additionally

Throughout this book you will see in-text citations: these are formatted in the APA 7 Style, one which you may encounter and use here at Brandon University. They will appear, most often, in an author-date format in parentheses: (Author Last Name, Date, Page Number) e.g. (Jury, 2024, p. 1). These indicate where information has been copied (if quoted word-for-word) or paraphrased from another source. You will find the full citation (including the author’s full name and publication information) at the end of this book, under the heading ‘Reference List’.

Using a citation style, like APA 7, to cite and reference our sources is how we show respect to those whose words and works have inspired us. Citing and referencing is an integral part of academic integrity, and we wanted to highlight it throughout this book
