11.8 Questions for Further Research and Exploration

Learning Objectives

 

  • Students can further explore and research themes and ideas about Science Fiction.
    1. Research the artist and discover the events and experiences that led them to paint their vision of the apocalypse. Their works reflect the only struggles of good and evil forces, the role of spirituality and the existential search to reconcile the destructive forces of life with forces of restoration, healing, and love. The dystopian images created by many visual artists can be complement reading dystopian works of fiction.
    2. Analyze and comparison two science fiction short stories. Find and explain connecting art images that you think would best complement the short story. Please explain your reason for selecting a particular work of art for the short story.
    3. Create your own short story accompanied by a work of art (e.g. collage, etching, your own design, photograph, etc.).
    4. Find contemporary short stories that highlight similar themes in this section.
    5. Research the ways in which classic short story writers such as Guy de Maupassant, Ernest Hemingway, Kate Chopin, Edgar Allen Poe, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, and Ursula Le Guin influenced contemporary writers and screen writers for films and related works of art.
